L'uomo del New England: «L'Uomo del New England» è il secondo ed ultimo fumetto realizzato per la collana «Un uomo un'avventura» edita da quella che diventerà la Sergio Bonelli Editore. In questa avventura, di cui Battaglia realizza sia i testi che i disegni (mentre i glaciali colori sono merito della moglie Laura Battaglia) troviamo la storia dipanarsi fra le imponenti foreste di conifere dell'America del Nord durante il periodo coloniale... Visivamente impressionante, ne «L'uomo del New England» Battaglia rende magicamente, con i suoi giochi di luci e (soprattutto) ombre, gli splendidi paesaggi lussureggianti, le lotte con indiani maestosi e torvi, le mille insidie ed i pericoli di una terra selvaggia e inesplorata. La storia segue i passi di Cristopher Nightly, giovane appassionato di gioco e caccia costretto a lasciare in fretta e furia l'Inghilterra a causa di una partita a carte finita male. Nightly intesserà una bizzarra amicizia col capitano Monck, il comandante della Black Star, nave su cui si imbarcherà furtivamente per scampare agli inseguitori. Ma all'arrivo a Boston, nel New England, scoprirà di essere destinato ad essere venduto, dato il suo status di clandestino, per ripagare le spese del viaggio.
